What makes a K-Cup strong?
Three things decide how hard a pod hits. Roast level is not one of them.
- The bean. Robusta runs roughly 2 to 2.7 percent caffeine by weight. Arabica runs about 1.2 to 1.5 percent. That is the single biggest lever there is.
- How much coffee is in the pod. A standard K-Cup holds around 10 grams. "Extra Bold" pods usually pack in more grounds.
- How much water you run through it. A smaller cup setting tastes stronger. It does not add caffeine, it just puts the same dose in less water.
