It depends on what you care about most: speed, taste, or cost. No single brewer wins all three.
| Method | Time | Taste | Cleanup | Needs power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AeroPress | About 2 minutes | Clean, full bodied, low bitterness | Pop the puck, rinse | No, just hot water |
| Pod machine | About 1 minute | Depends on the pod | Toss the pod | Yes |
| Pour-over cone | 3 to 4 minutes | Clean and bright | Toss the filter | No, but you need a kettle and patience |
| Small French press | About 4 minutes | Heavy, with some grit | Scoop out wet grounds | No |
How much does a single cup cost by method?
Less than you think with bagged coffee. A 12 oz bag holds about 340 grams, and at 15 grams a cup that is roughly 22 cups.
| ARC coffee | Price | Cups | Per cup |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 oz bag, brewed in an AeroPress | $16.99 | About 22 | About $0.77 |
| 12 count K-Cups | $12.99 | 12 | About $1.08 |
The press pays for itself in a few months if you drink a cup a day. Subscribing drops the per cup cost further, since the first subscription order takes 30% off automatically.
Is an AeroPress better than a Keurig?
For taste, yes. For speed, no. The AeroPress lets you pick your coffee, your grind, and your water temperature, and the paper filter makes a cleaner cup.
A pod machine wins at 0500 when you cannot think. If that is your morning, we make K-Cups too, and there is no shame in it.

What is the best single cup coffee maker?
For taste and cost, an AeroPress. It brews one cup in about two minutes with no power and works out to under a dollar a cup with bagged coffee. For pure speed, a pod machine is faster.
Is it cheaper to make coffee with an AeroPress or K-Cups?
An AeroPress with bagged coffee is cheaper. A $16.99 bag of ARC coffee makes about 22 cups, roughly 77 cents each. A $12.99 box of 12 ARC K-Cups is about $1.08 a cup.
What is the easiest coffee maker for one person?
A pod machine is the easiest. An AeroPress is nearly as easy once you have done it twice: add coffee, add water, stir, wait, press, and rinse.
Can an AeroPress make more than one cup?
The Original holds 10 oz, enough for one large cup or two small ones. For two full mugs, brew a stronger concentrate and split it with hot water.
Do I need a grinder for an AeroPress?
No. Pre-ground coffee works. Whole bean ground right before brewing gives you a better cup and more control over strength.
