How Much Coffee Do You Actually Need Per Month?

How much coffee is in a bag?
A twelve ounce bag is about 340 grams, and a standard mug takes roughly fifteen grams of ground coffee. That puts one bag at about twenty two mugs.
A five pound bag is about 2,268 grams, or roughly 151 mugs. For a household running two or more daily drinkers, bulk usually beats stacking twelve ounce bags on both price and hassle.
If you brew a full pot rather than single mugs, count what you actually drink rather than what you brew. Coffee poured down the sink still came out of the bag.
How many bags of coffee do you need per month?
Find your row. This is the chart worth screenshotting before you set up any delivery schedule.
| Mugs per day | Grams per month | Bags per month | Suggested interval |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | About 450g | About 1 bag | Every 4 weeks, 1 bag |
| 2 | About 900g | About 2 bags | Every 4 weeks, 2 bags |
| 3 | About 1,350g | About 3 bags | Every 2 weeks, 1 to 2 bags |
| 4 | About 1,800g | About 4 bags | Every 2 weeks, 2 bags |
| Two drinkers, 2 mugs each | About 1,800g | About 4 bags | Every 2 weeks, 2 bags |
| Office or crew of 6 plus | 5 lb and up | 1 bulk bag | Every 4 weeks, 5 lb |
Weekend drinking throws this off more than people expect. If you drink two mugs on weekdays and four on Saturday and Sunday, you are closer to a three mug per day average than a two.
How do you pick a delivery interval?
Start one notch longer than the chart says. Shortening an interval takes about four seconds and clearing a backlog of unwanted bags takes a month.
Available intervals are two, four, and eight weeks. Four weeks covers most single drinkers at one to two mugs a day. Two weeks is for heavy drinkers and multi-person households. Eight weeks suits occasional drinkers and people who also keep a second coffee source in the house.
Then adjust once, after the second delivery. By then you know your real pace rather than your estimated one, and you can set it and forget it for good.
How long does coffee stay good once it arrives?
Coffee is at its best in roughly the first three to four weeks after roasting, which is exactly why the interval matters more than the bulk discount. A four week interval means you are finishing each bag near its peak instead of working through the tail end of one you bought two months ago.
Store it sealed, at room temperature, away from heat and light. Not the freezer, not on top of the machine where it gets warm every morning.
Grind matters here too. Whole bean holds its aroma far longer than ground, because coffee starts losing volatiles within minutes of grinding. If you own a grinder, this is the argument for using it.

Questions people actually ask
How many bags of coffee does one person drink a month?
About one twelve ounce bag per mug per day. A single daily drinker goes through roughly one bag a month, and two mugs a day works out to about two bags.
How many cups does a 12 oz bag of coffee make?
About twenty two mugs at a standard fifteen gram dose. If you brew stronger, expect closer to eighteen. If you brew lighter, you may get twenty five or more.
How often should I get coffee delivered?
Every four weeks covers most people drinking one to two mugs a day. Every two weeks suits three or more mugs a day or a household with two daily drinkers. Every eight weeks works for occasional drinkers.
What if I run out before my next delivery?
Shorten the interval or add a second bag to the order. Both are changed from your account portal in a few seconds and take effect on the next shipment.
Is it better to buy one big bag or several small ones?
Several smaller bags if you care about freshness, because coffee is best within three to four weeks of roasting. One five pound bag if you have the volume to finish it in that window, which usually means two or more daily drinkers.
Get the interval right once and the whole thing disappears into the background, which is the point. One bag per daily mug per month is the rule that gets you there.
